Soon the time will come when Dead By April will go on a large European tour with their Swedish colleagues One Without and Marionettes. The SlaughTour is the name of that spectacle, with Nightshade we are part of the offiicial presentators of this story.
Naturally we want to get you more close to the band. For this reason we have sent the guys some questions, bassblayer Marcus gave aus the answers.
Otti:
Hey guys, your new album Incomparable was released in september. How do you feel about the record with a little distance now?
Marcus:
Its feels great!! We are very happy with all the songs and the production, it´s a little bit heavier but also more pop. And thats what Dead By April is all about.
Otti:
Incomparable is the second longplayer after your selftitlet first album Dead By April. What have been the main differences in songwriting and working on the record this time?
Marcus:
Not much i think, it´s still Pontus that writes the songs with a little help from Jimmie sometimes. And this time Pontus was one of the producers as well.
Otti:
Did you experience any funny or interesting moments during the studio work?
Marcus:
It´s always funny moments during recordings, we have always have a couple of laughs when we are together. Everbody is a little bit "crazy" in this band hehe.
Otti:
There have been some line up changes since your debut. How did things come, and what´s the feeling in the current constellation?
Marcus:
Pontus was the first to go, and he did a lot of the clean vocals live, so we found Zandro and forced him to join. Then Johan quit because he wanted to focus on private stuff. And for one tour we had a stand in on guitar (Joel Nilsson from A slient escape).
But then we started to talk with Pontus again and now he´s back in the game again! And this line up works really well! Everybody besides Zandro is orginal members and has been on the ship since the start.

Otti:
Jimmy was singer of Nightrage in the past as I know, but what is the musical background of all of you? How did you start making music?
Marcus:
Well... Alex was also in Nightrage for a while, and myself (Marcus Wesslen) has been playing metal since for ever hehe, I ve played in bands like Trendkill, By Night and Eternal lies and all the bands has released records worldwide and done some touring and festivals across the world.
Before even the name Dead By April and the band was formed Pontus and Jimmie did a couple of songs and put them on MySpace. Record labels started to make contact and the support from people online was veeery good. So they decided to make something more than just have it as a project. And here we are!
Otti:
Your career was a rather rocket-like one so far. At the beginning, what have been your expectations for Dead By April?
Marcus:
Yes it sure was one hell of a ride! in just a few weeks we went from a "demoband" to playing festivals for 15 000 people.
The expectations has always been very high, and they still are! The goal is to take over the world!!
Otti:
You are going on a large European tour, called The SlaughTour these days. I didn´t find any information about your former gig history, so what can you tell me about your live experiences so far?
Marcus:
Its all about Facebook now days and that´s where you will find all info and past shows, tours and more, we update it everytime we play with videos and pics. So check it out!! But well.. we have played like crazy! All over the world and i think we played more in one year then the most do in 3 years. it was 4-5 shows every week for a very long time.
But thats what its all about, playing live and having fun. But its a very big difference here and in europe, here in Sweden we can play a headline show for 2000 people. And then we go to London and play 500 people. So we are a bit spoiled back home:) Much thank to tv and radio.

Otti:
Supporting you on The SlaughTour will be Marionette and One Without. Is there any deeper connection between you and the other bands?
Marcus:
No not really, they are from Gothenburg but that´s it.
Otti:
I am really looking forward to your gig here in cologne, but what are you looking forward to, the time you´re here in Germany?
Marcus:
It´s going to be fun as hell to come back to Germany again since we mostley played scandinavia an Uk on tha past tours.
Otti:
As I´ve read, you´ve done a cover of the song Love Like Blood by the legendary Killing Joke in the past. Could you tell me about your thoughts of that band?
Marcus:
Hehe i really dont know anything about them, so it´s better that i dont pretend that i like them or know anything about them, because i don´t. I like the song but thats it. Sorry... Haha.
Otti:
And generally, which artists, but also maybe media are the main influences on your musical work?
Marcus:
Since it´s Pontus who writes the songs i don´t know, besides that he´s a huge Michael Jackson fan!
Otti:
The tour will be in december, but you´re at home at christmas. What are your thoughts about that feast, and if you celebrate, how and with whom?
Marcus:
I think everybody in sweden loves christmas!! All the food, presents! What is not to love! And im sure of that everybody will be home with their family and friends for this.
Otti:
And after that, 2012 will come, what are your wishes for the new year?
Marcus:
We have some really big things coming up in 2012 so i know it´s going to a killer year for us!!
Otti:
Finally, this interview has to end. Could you please write down a cool conclusion for me, just to show your creativity?
Marcus:
Be happy, smile alot, eat healthy food, drink coffe, work out, love metal, don´t buy a red car.. the color will fade in the sun after some years, watch family guy, and buy the latest album with Dead By April!!
